Session Report

The Kirk Session met after a Congregational Board meeting in the Church Hall on

17th September 2009

During its meeting on 17th September, 2009 the Session agreed as follows;-

v To record, with pleasure, the appointment of Gillian Orr as Presbytery Youth Worker and affirm her in that role.

v To encourage the efforts aimed at ‘Back to Church Sunday’, to encourage members to use the invitations and also to make invitations as a Session where that was felt appropriate –and to record thanks to Di for her work in this project

v To support and encourage the planning for the Church Weekend Away at Cromarty.

v To respond as requested to the Panel on Review & Reform with observations concerning proposals to look at possible re-structuring of the Church of Scotland Presbytery system. The Session was not enthusiastic towards the suggestions/ models presented to it and will write to the Panel accordingly. In this respect the Session appears to be like minded with other Sessions and Presbyteries throughout the Highlands.

v Part of the business of the 2009 General Assembly dealt with homosexuality in the leadership of the Church of Scotland as well as the induction of Rev Scott Rennie to Aberdeen Queens Cross Church. The Session will bring a paper to the Congregation with its thoughts about these matters.  There will be an opportunity for discussion of these and any other relevant matters at a church meeting to be held after brunch on 1st November.

v To encourage the Mission & Outreach Team to look at opportunities for a further Parish-wide outreach prior to Christmas.

v To make the first service of the month as stimulating as possible for the whole age range in church during those services.

v To encourage an initiative proposed by the Kiwoko Team to investigate the possibility of a further visit  to Kiwoko.

v To encourage Seoras Orr to speak to November Presbytery following his visit to the Youth Assembly

v To encourage joint initiatives  with Aviemore Church

v To report a successful visit and talk by Angela and Paul Maxfield in June

v To note that Hendry Robertson will preach on 18-10-2009 during Ron’s absence

v To create opportunities for folk who worship regularly with us to join the church family as members

Agreed to meet on 19th November, 2009 following a Congregational Board meeting.
